Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance CHP provides emergency financial assistance for rent, utilities, propane, gasoline, and some minor prescription needs after client’s financial information is verified and if funds are available at that time. Checks are only written to providers such as landlords, utility companies or pharmacies. Cash or checks are never presented to the individual clients. We have worked out a voucher agreement with a local Chevron station to allow our clients to present gasoline vouchers that are then billed back to CHP on a monthly basis. We also provide a voucher system through our own Thrift and Furniture Store as well as Baby Pantry to meet basic needs such as clothing for adults and children, or formula, baby food, diapers or clothing for infants. Upon receipt and verification of a request from another agency or through our own intake process, clients are able to receive merchandise at no charge through our Thrift Store or Baby Pantry. The requests for assistance from the Emergency Assistance program increased 72% over last year, and while we were able to provide over $41,000.00 in direct assistance in 2005, funding was depleted most months within the first two weeks of the month.
